One of Steamboat’s most exciting events is the Pro Rodeo Series. During the summer months, this long-standing tradition hits Brent Romick Arena every Friday and Saturday night. This family- friendly activity includes all kinds of exciting events such as Bareback Riding, Team Roping, Steer Wrestling, and more. Steamboat prides itself in sticking to it’s Western roots — and the Steamboat Rodeo is an important way we do so. This event is largely popular with locals, and an absolute favorite of our visitors as well.

History of the Rodeo

The beginning of the Steamboat Springs Pro Rodeo is known to go back more than a century. It is not known for certain when Steamboat Springs hosted its first organized rodeo competition, however mentions of competitive rodeo events date back to at least 1898. Steamboat has been been a long-standing Western town. It was full of cowboys and cowgirls, and horses that were bred for work, and cattle drives down Lincoln. The local cowboys’ casual betting often led to impromptu rodeo-type competitions.
