Stagecoach State Park – South Routt
Stagecoach Sate Park is a great place to fish due to its versatility. Bring the family to Stagecoach reservoir for some awesome lake fishing with plenty of trout! The reservoir sits about 25 minutes South of Steamboat, and also has a variety of amenities such as boat rentals. Additionally, fly fishers also frequent this area at the Stagecoach Tailwaters or at Sarvis Creek just down the road. There are great opportunities for anglers in this area, with peak hours around 10am.
Steamboat Lake State Park
Steamboat Lake is the ideal setting for those teaching their kiddos how to fish. Just North of Steamboat Springs, this stunning area offers lovely views of Hahn’s Peak. From summer to winter, this lake is chalk-full of fish. In addition to the early morning bite, try an evening dry fly on the lake, or an afternoon classic worm-on-a-hook.
Yampa River
One of the locals’ favorite pastimes in Steamboat is fly fishing on the Yampa River. Without having to travel too far, there are several miles of public access right in downtown Steamboat where you can cast for rainbow and brown trout. The river offers a quiet setting with stunning views of the mountain, and in addition, world-class trout.
