The Steamboat Cowboy Downhill is a whimsical event that combines skiing with the lighthearted spirit of the Wild West. Held annually at Steamboat Ski Resort, this unique spectacle sees professional rodeo cowboys and cowgirls swap their saddles for skis, don their cowboy hats and western attire, and tackle the slopes with daring flair. The event, celebrated with infectious laughter and a sense of camaraderie, features entertaining races, daring jumps, and comical antics, all set against the stunning backdrop of Steamboat Springs’ snow-covered peaks.
As the cowboys and cowgirls compete in this one-of-a-kind downhill rodeo, it’s a reminder of Steamboat’s rich ranching heritage and the town’s ability to seamlessly blend its Western roots with its world-class skiing culture. 2025 marks 50 years since Billy Kidd, Steamboat’s Director of Skiing at the time, first started this event, and it’s become one of the most popular events of the Steamboat winter season. Today, over 100 of the best professional rodeo cowboys compete in the most unique ski rodeo in the country – it’s truly a sight to see! The Cowboy Downhill is a true testament to the spirit of adventure and fun that defines Steamboat Springs.

5:30 PM – 50th Anniversary Bud Light Cowboy Downhill Drone Show
This year, the Bud Light Cowboy Downhill celebration kicks off with a spectacular drone show at Steamboat Resort! Starting at 5:30 PM, watch as the night sky comes alive with a dazzling display of lights and choreography, commemorating 50 years of this iconic event. This high-tech showcase blends cutting-edge innovation with Steamboat’s rich Western heritage. Gather your loved ones and prepare for an unforgettable evening!
Monday, January 20th
11:00 AM – 1:00 PM: Western Festivities in Gondola Square
Celebrate the 50th Annual Bud Light Cowboy Downhill with a variety of fun Western-themed activities in Steamboat Square. Highlights include:
- 4-H Farm Animals: Get up close with adorable animals from the farm.
- Delicious Food and Drinks: Savor tasty bites from Timber & Torch Grill.
- Roping Clinic: Try your hand at roping and channel your inner cowboy or cowgirl.
- Special Guests: Meet the Denver Broncos Cheerleaders and snap a photo with them.

1:00 PM: 50th Annual Bud Light Cowboy Downhill
Don’t miss the excitement as cowboys and cowgirls take on the slopes in a fast-paced Timed Dual Slalom. With thrills, spills, and plenty of action, it’s a race to remember! Stick around for the adrenaline-filled Stampede finale as competitors dash to the finish line. Who will take home the win?
2:30 PM (Approx.): Bud Light Free Concert at the Steamboat Stage
Wrap up the festivities with a free live concert featuring Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe. Get ready to groove to their high-energy performance as the perfect ending to an action-packed day.
